    I play the guitar, drums, and the harmonica. I've never tried the violin and I'm now 40 years old. I can't wait to grab one when I get off work. Thanks for these awesome tips. Lol I can't help but wonder if I'll pick it up fast due to 27 years of playing the guitar. I hope so, my kids want to learn this instrument and I hope I can pick it up fast to help them.

      I once taught a guitarist how to play the violin in a two hour lesson. He was able to play a g-major scale after this one lesson. Playing a stringed instrument definitely helps when learning another!

    Hi Simon. in this video you mentioned Best E string is Pirastro gold mark. After this while do you still think it is a good one to mix and merge with other sets?

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation 9 дней назад

      I think the best E-string, which is worth a try with many sets of strings is the E string from the Evah Pirazzi Gold set. The one you mention is adifferent one I think. I still think it is a good string but it often depends on the violin as well.

    Hi Simon thanks for the video,as you yourself I am into testing different strings; recently check Thomastik blue infield strings it was bright and clear, what is your opinion about them ? Previously tried Larsen original and Aurora ,they were not appealing after 1 month but I assume This Larsen vertuoso seems worth to test.

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation 23 дня назад

      The Larsen Virtuoso to me are the best Larsen Set. The Il Cannone have a different concept which I think Pirastro does better. The Larsen Virtuoso are amazing strings though!

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation Месяц назад

      usually colored violins are made to look good in the first place. I haven't played a colored instrument yet, that sounded better than the average normal varnished violin. But if you are satisfied with the sound, go for it! A lot depends on the player anyways.

    Hallo Simon, vielen Dank! Das hat endlich einige Fragezeichen in meinem Kopf geklärt, v.a. die Erklärung mit den "Doppelnoten", also "normale Noten" unten, "Diamant" oben drüber.😁 Eine Frage dazu bleibt aber noch: ich bereite gerade ein Stück vor (Czardas von Monti mit Violine, Cello und Klavier), wo die "normale" Note das tiefe G ist und das C' als Flageolett gespielt werden muss. Da kann man die normale Note ja nun nicht drücken... wegens leere G-Saite. Wie spielt man das G dann? Wäre dankbar für einen Tipp. Liebe Grüße

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation Месяц назад

      Ich glaube ich erwähne es auch in dem Video irgendwann, aber ich weiß jetzt nicht die genaue Stelle. Das ist dann harmonisch gesehen das gleiche wie ein künstiches Flageolett mit dem Quartgriff 1. Finger gedrückt 4. Finger leicht, nur dass man eben das Glück hat die leere Saite nicht drücken zu müssen und somit auch den Flageolettfinger auf 3. Finger wechseln kann. Man spielt also leere g-Saite und platziert den 3. Finger an der Stelle des C` als Flageolett auf der Saite. Ich hoffe das hilft :)

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation Месяц назад

      I listen to recordings to learn from them and not to make a competition out of it who is "better". Most of the top soloists are so individual that you can't really "compare" them anyways. Regarding learnings for myself and my teaching I don't think it is bad to look closely at what top soloists do different and learn from that and maybe adapt some thoughts. The reason most violinists pinky is weak is because they were taught not to use it much. That is my only point here.

      Thank you for your comment. Many like the Goldbrokat. I was underwhelmed by their winding quality. They just slipped at the peg and I couldn't safely remove the bridge protection, which I don't need. I also prefer medium E-strings usually, but for soloistic playing heavy might help.

    Is this for wrist vilbrato or arm?

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation 2 месяца назад

      For a combined one (which most vibratos are in my opinion). My vibrato is more from the arm and less from the wrist, but wrist exercises like the second one I show in this video help me to implement more wrist in my vibrato.

    Thank you so much for this very informative video! I think it is rare to hear someone explain with professional courtesy the difference between these two bow holds. I agree with so much of what you said, especially concerning the misconceptions of the "Russian" hold. I was so glad to see you using air quotes when referencing the Russian name, indicating that you know that the name is not correct. I wonder if you would consider watching the first 3 minutes of this video: ruclips.net/video/lLpsorJgVro/видео.html. As a violinist who uses "Russian" technique, I feel it is time to publicly discuss correcting the misnomer "Russian," in favor of something that is a more accurate reflection of its origins. I would be glad to hear your thoughts, and invite you to join me in the campaign to change the way people refer to this technique. Many thanks for your consideration!
